I would like to get more info on CPUs, caches, graphics cards, and RAM that would be optimal for computer aided design which will result in a laptop price not exceeding US$1,200

it is going to be difficult to get a laptop under 1200 that will run cad programs. i would suggest building your own. try tigerdirect.com and newegg.com and go from there. you will save hundreds.

but a dual core processor would be optimal, video cards dont matter as much, but RAM is very important, i suggest 3+ GB

Toshiba laptops…with 3GB ram and 250GB hard-drive….cheap about $900.

pretty much any modern Core2Duo processor will handle CAD work … what you need to do is Max out your Ram …. 4GB is pretty standard these days … 32Bit OS will only see about 3.25 … but the more you got the better

I would recommend you to check out ProCompare.com (http://procompare.com/top/notebooks). They have a recommendation engine that ranks laptops and other tech products based on ratings and reviews from a community of trusted IT professionals. They also have a cool personalization slider that lets you personalize the results based on the criteria that are most important to YOU.

Hope you’ll find this answer useful…
